Blu-Ray Disc & Blu Ray Disc Technology

By

Blu-ray, is the next generation of entertainment and data management technology. Blu-ray is also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD). This fast emerging technology is being extensively used by consumer electronics manufacturers such as Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, and Sony.

The Blu-ray (often misspelled as blue-ray) enables recording / burning, writing / rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD). It is also being used for storing large amounts of data.

Blu-ray discs are getting popular for its' capacity to store large amount of data. It can hold more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs. A single-layer blu-ray disc can hold upto 25GB of data whereas; a double-layer blu-ray disc can hold a massive 50GB of data. This capacity of blu-ray discs offers an unprecedented and thrilling HD experience. All this is possible because of technological developments and advancements in the field of electronics and technology.

The Blu-ray technology uses a blue-violet laser to burn data, hence the name Blu-ray. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser is that it has a shorter wavelength than the traditional red laser, which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision and accuracy. This allows data to be burned more tightly in less space. This is the reason why it is possible to store more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD and DVD.

Blu-ray dvd, blu-ray DVD players have hit the market. Today, Blu-ray is being used in all kinds of consumer electronics, personal computer, movie recordings, video game and music industry. New films are now released on Blu-ray Disc / DVD.

Interesting, espcially your explanation of the differences between red and blue/violet lasers and the ability of the latter to be used to store more data. Voted up. Bob
